What Is ALCATEL-IND1-IP-MIB?

ALCATEL-IND1-IP-MIB is an Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch proprietary IP management MIB covering interface-level IP configuration, ARP (address resolution), and basic denial-of-service protection settings. It exposes the ARP cache via alaIpNetToMediaTable (including proxy-ARP, VRRP, and authentication attributes per entry), directed-broadcast configuration, and a DoS protection table and configuration group. Operationally it is used to monitor and manage networking software state: administrators can inspect and clear the ARP cache and check DoS attack counters, helping diagnose IP-layer connectivity issues and detect attack traffic. It supplements, rather than replaces, the standard IP-MIB and IF-MIB by adding Alcatel-specific extensions such as VRRP-aware ARP entries. It is deployed on OmniSwitch Layer 3 switches/routers where administrators need vendor-specific visibility into ARP and DoS state beyond standard MIB-II, and an ALCATEL-IND1-IP-MIB download from Alcatel-Lucent's support portal lets them load it into a MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ALCATEL-IND1-IP-MIB. Monitoring Examples

An operator would walk alaIpNetToMediaTable/alaIpNetToMediaEntry to inspect alaIpNetToMediaPhysAddress, alaIpNetToMediaVrrp, and alaIpNetToMediaProxy for a given IP, confirming whether an ARP entry is a VRRP virtual MAC or a proxy-ARP response, and could invoke alaIpClearArpCache or alaIpClearArpFilter to clear a stale or poisoned entry. Separately, polling alaDoSTable/alaDoSEntry alongside alaDoSConfig would reveal counts of detected denial-of-service patterns, flagging an active attack against the switch. A rapidly growing DoS counter combined with ARP table churn would indicate an ARP spoofing or flooding event in progress.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using alaDoSArpPoisonDetected OID:

Select an Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise OmniSwitch switch as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type alaDoSArpPoisonDetected into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the number of ARP Poison attacks detected. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases between polls, since a rising count of errors, failures, or discards often points to a real underlying problem. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
