What Is CISCO-OPTICAL-OTS-MIB?

This is a Cisco MIB for the Optical Transport Section (OTS) layer of DWDM optical transport systems, covering physical amplifier and span-level characteristics of optical line systems. It exposes controller-level objects for port type, laser status, received/transmitted optical power, total RX/TX power, amplifier gain and tilt, and variable optical attenuator (VOA) settings, plus performance-monitoring thresholds and notifications. Its monitoring emphasis is squarely on optical hardware health — laser status and RX/TX power readings reveal whether an amplifier or transceiver is degrading or has failed, and threshold-crossing notifications flag early signs of fiber-span or amplifier problems before a full outage occurs. It is Cisco-specific and is used alongside related Cisco optical MIBs for other layers (OMS, OCH) to build a complete DWDM transport picture. It is deployed on Cisco DWDM/optical transport platforms (e.g. ONS/NCS optical line systems) in long-haul and metro optical transport networks. Engineers can download the CISCO-OPTICAL-OTS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-OPTICAL-OTS-MIB. Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll cooOtsControllerTable/cooOtsControllerEntry to read cooOtsControllerLaserStatus, cooOtsControllerRXPower, and cooOtsControllerTXPower per cooOtsControllerPortType, alongside cooOtsControllerAmpliGain and cooOtsControllerAmpliTilt for each amplifier stage. A drop in cooOtsControllerTotalRXPower combined with a laser status change would signal amplifier or fiber-span degradation, triggering a cooOtsNotifEnabled-driven threshold-crossing alert before the link fully fails.
