Category: Cisco Devices, Network Interfaces, Optical and WDM, SNMP Framework

Description: Declares agent capability statements for SONET/SDH interface management MIB on Cisco optical transport platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-SONET-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-SONET-CAPABILITY is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module, not a data-bearing MIB, that documents which objects of the standard SONET-MIB (RFC 2558) are actually implemented by SNMP agents on specific Cisco optical transport line cards. It declares per-module capability statements for AXSM, SRME, AXSM-XG, and VXSM/MPSM modules, describing their SONET/SDH interface management support. Because it is purely a conformance declaration it exposes no runtime hardware/software status data itself; it tells a management application what subset of SONET-MIB to expect from a given card type. It is entirely dependent on and scoped against the IETF SONET-MIB (RFC 2558) standard it references. It is used during NMS integration and MIB compliance validation on Cisco multiservice/optical platforms with these modules, not for day-to-day polling. Engineers can download the CISCO-SONET-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-SONET-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco optical/ATM switch platforms using AXSM/SRME/AXSM-XG/VXSM/MPSM modules

Monitoring Examples

This module is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance declaration, not a data MIB, so it has no runtime data objects to poll and no realistic monitoring scenario to describe; its only function is to state, per module type (AXSM, SRME, AXSM-XG, VXSM, MPSM), which SONET-MIB groups and objects the Cisco agent supports.
