Category: Vendor: ADTRAN

Description: Manages T1/DS1 interface configuration, framing, line coding, and performance history on ADTRAN network devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ADTRAN-DS1-MIB?

This is an ADTRAN vendor-specific MIB for managing T1/DS1 circuit interfaces on ADTRAN network access and transport devices, covering framing (D4/ESF), line coding (AMI/B8ZS), line build-out, and historical performance statistics. It exposes configuration objects for how the DS1 port is provisioned as well as counters for line errors such as CRC errors, framing errors, and severely errored seconds, typically bucketed into 15-minute and 24-hour history intervals. As a circuit-level MIB it is focused on monitoring hardware/interface status — physical-layer alarms (loss of signal, loss of frame, AIS), configuration mismatches, and long-term error-rate trends rather than general chassis health. It commonly complements the IETF DS1-MIB (RFC 2495), adding ADTRAN-specific configuration objects not covered by the standard MIB. It's deployed on ADTRAN routers, CSUs/DSUs, and multiservice devices terminating T1/DS1 leased-line or PRI circuits, where clean framing and error-free line stats are essential to service quality, and network engineers commonly keep the ADTRAN-DS1-MIB file on hand when auditing these circuits.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ADTRAN-DS1-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ADTRAN T1/DS1 CSU/DSU or router with DS1 interface

Monitoring Examples

An engineer would poll the DS1 line-status objects for alarm bits such as loss-of-signal or AIS to confirm whether a T1 circuit handed off from the carrier is physically up, and check the framing/line-coding configuration to ensure it matches what the carrier provisioned. 15-minute and 24-hour error-count history objects (errored seconds, severely errored seconds, unavailable seconds) reveal intermittent line quality problems that a simple up/down check would miss. A rising trend in CRC or framing errors over successive intervals typically points to a bad repeater, cabling, or carrier-side provisioning issue.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DS1 line alarm status (LOS/LOF/AIS)
  • framing and line coding configuration
  • 15-min/24-hr errored-seconds history
  • CRC and framing error counts
  • line build-out settings
