Description: Manages network synchronization source selection and status on ADTRAN AOS devices for timing-critical applications.

What Is ADTRAN-AOS-NETWORK-SYNC-MIB?

ADTRAN-AOS-NETWORK-SYNC-MIB is an ADTRAN vendor MIB for AdtranOS devices that manages network timing/synchronization, covering selection and status of clock reference sources used to synchronize the device to the network. It exposes configuration and status data such as loss-of-timing-input (LTI) state, per-clock defect status, T4 timing-input squelch state, and trap enable/control for synchronization events. Its monitoring value is centered on hardware/line timing health -- detecting when a reference clock has failed or degraded, and when a noisy timing input has been automatically squelched -- which is critical in timing-sensitive applications like TDM/voice trunking. It follows ADTRAN's standard AOS MIB conformance structure and does not show dependency on external IETF timing MIBs in the available text. It is deployed on ADTRAN AOS access/aggregation devices in networks where accurate network timing synchronization (e.g., for TDM circuits or cellular backhaul) must be centrally monitored. Engineers can download the ADTRAN-AOS-NETWORK-SYNC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ADTRAN-AOS-NETWORK-SYNC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ADTRAN AOS-based access/aggregation device with network timing/synchronization

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll adGenAOSNetSyncLTIState to check for loss-of-timing-input across configured sync sources, and adGenAOSNetSyncClockDefectStatus per adGenAOSNetSyncClockNumber to detect a specific failing reference clock. adGenAOSNetSyncT4SquelchState reveals whether a noisy or unstable timing input has been automatically squelched to protect downstream timing distribution. An adGenAOSNetSyncTrap notification, controlled via adGenAOSNetSyncTrapEnable and adGenAOSNetSyncTrapControl, would alert the admin in real time when the device fails over to a backup timing source.

What Can Be Monitored

  • timing/clock reference status per clock number
  • loss-of-timing-input (LTI) state
  • clock defect status
  • T4 timing input squelch state
  • sync-related trap enable/control
