Description: Manages DNS server and resolver configuration on ADTRAN AOS networking devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ADTRAN-AOS-DNS-MIB?
ADTRAN-AOS-DNS-MIB is a vendor-specific SNMP module for devices running ADTRAN's AOS (Adtran Operating System), providing statistics and status for the device's DNS resolver/server functionality. It exposes objects covering DNS query activity, including nameserver addresses queried, timestamps, error conditions, requested domain names, and resource record types. Its monitoring value is a software/service health check for DNS resolution on the device — confirming DNS queries are succeeding and identifying error conditions (such as failed lookups) tied to specific domain names or nameservers, which helps diagnose application connectivity issues that stem from name resolution failures. It relates conceptually to the standard DNS protocol (RFC 1035) though implemented as an ADTRAN-proprietary statistics MIB. It is deployed on ADTRAN AOS routers/gateways where DNS resolution behavior needs to be monitored for troubleshooting. Engineers can download the ADTRAN-AOS-DNS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ADTRAN-AOS-DNS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- ADTRAN AOS-based router/gateway
Monitoring Examples
Sample objects adDnsTimestamp, adDnsNameserverInetAddressType/adDnsNameserverInetAddress, adDnsRequestErrorCondition, adDnsDomainName, and adDnsResourceRecordType indicate a per-query record of DNS activity. An administrator would poll adDnsRequestErrorCondition alongside adDnsDomainName and adDnsNameserverInetAddress to identify which domain lookups are failing and against which nameserver, revealing an unreachable or misconfigured DNS server. adDnsTimestamp would help correlate these DNS errors with other network events during troubleshooting.
What Can Be Monitored
- DNS query nameserver address
- DNS request error conditions
- queried domain name
- DNS resource record type
- query timestamp
