Category: Vendor: ACC/Ericsson

Description: Manages SMDS (Switched Multimegabit Data Service) interface parameters on ACC/Ericsson routers including address configuration and traffic statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ACC-SMDS?

ACC-SMDS is an enterprise MIB for ACC/Ericsson routers covering SMDS (Switched Multimegabit Data Service) interface configuration, including address settings and traffic statistics for SMDS WAN circuits. It exposes objects for SMDS address configuration (individual and group addresses) and interface traffic counters covering packets/bytes sent and received and errors. Its monitoring value is in tracking SMDS circuit health and utilization: traffic and error counters reveal whether an SMDS link is carrying expected volume or experiencing packet loss/errors, a direct signal of a degrading WAN circuit. It would typically be used alongside a standard interface MIB (IF-MIB) for generic interface state and ACC-ALARMS for fault notifications on the same interface. The ACC-SMDS MIB is deployed on ACC/Ericsson routers connecting to legacy SMDS-based public WAN services.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ACC-SMDS. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ACC/Ericsson router with SMDS WAN interfaces

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polls the SMDS interface traffic counters to confirm throughput matches expected levels for a subscribed access rate, and checks the address configuration objects to verify the correct individual/group addresses are assigned. A rising error counter alongside falling successful-packet counts would indicate a degrading SMDS circuit or address misconfiguration causing dropped traffic.

What Can Be Monitored

  • SMDS address configuration
  • interface traffic counters (packets/bytes)
  • interface error counts
