What Is A3COM-IPEXTNS-R5-MIB?
A3COM-IPEXTNS-R5-MIB is a 3Com proprietary MIB providing IP-related extensions for legacy 3Com routers, supplementing the standard RFC 1213 (MIB-II) IP group with additional routing-table objects and IP address-management data. It exposes extended routing and IP-configuration information beyond what the base IP group in MIB-II provides. Its monitoring relevance is mostly configuration/state visibility for the IP forwarding layer: an operator could use it to check extended routing-table entries or address-assignment state on the router, complementing the standard ipRouteTable/ipAddrTable for a fuller picture, though it is not primarily a hardware-health MIB. It explicitly extends RFC 1213's IP objects, so it must be used alongside the standard MIB-II IP group rather than as a replacement. The IP address for interface 1 will no longer apply to all interfaces. 2) ipForwarding will stay at not-forwarding, and 3) all previously ignored RIP-IP parameters will take effect. In order to actively route packets, ipForwarding will need to be set to forwarding. During this transition, there is the danger that no IP address will have been configured for the interface that receives the SNMP requests, in which case, the device will no longer be manageable. For this reason, it is suggested that the IP addresses for the interface that receives the SNMP requests be set in the same PDU that sets this object. |
