Category: ZyXEL ES and GS Switch Platform
Description: Defines ZyXEL ES-2024A 24-port Fast Ethernet switch specific objects for device configuration and monitoring.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ZYXEL-ES2024A-MIB?
ZYXEL-ES2024A-MIB is a private enterprise MIB from ZyXEL Communications that supports the ES-2024A, a 24-port Fast Ethernet managed switch. The module defines an event/fault logging subsystem: an event table cataloging system and hardware events with sequence numbers, event IDs, names, severities and timestamps, plus SNMP trap notifications carrying the same event details. It is used chiefly for hardware/software status monitoring, capturing service-affecting fault events (link failures, power issues, hardware faults) as they occur, tagging each with a severity level and instance identifier so it is clear which port or module is affected, and generating traps in near real time so operators learn of a hardware or software fault immediately rather than waiting for polling. As a ZyXEL private enterprise MIB it complements the standard IF-MIB/SNMPv2-MIB objects and relies on standard SNMP notification (TRAP-TYPE/NOTIFICATION-TYPE) mechanisms from the SMI. Typical deployment has an SNMP manager subscribe to trap notifications from an ES-2024A switch at a network edge or wiring closet, and also periodically poll the event table to build a rolling fault history log, using the ZYXEL-ES2024A-MIB MIB loaded into the network management platform.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZYXEL-ES2024A-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- ZyXEL ES-2024A Fast Ethernet switch
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll eventTable/eventEntry, indexed by eventSeqNum, to retrieve eventEventId, eventName, eventInstanceType, eventInstanceId, eventInstanceName, eventSeverity, eventSetTime and eventDescription for each logged occurrence. A rising eventSeverity value combined with eventServAffective set true on a specific eventInstanceName (e.g., a particular port) would flag a service-impacting hardware fault such as a link-down or power condition needing immediate attention. The switch also emits trapNotifications carrying trapInfoObjects so the NMS is alerted asynchronously instead of relying solely on polling eventTable.
What Can Be Monitored
- logged fault/event history
- event severity level
- affected port/interface instance
- event timestamp
- service-affecting fault flag
- real-time trap notifications

In brief the instanceType refers to the type of sub-component generating this event in the system, for example switch (5). For more details see the textual conventions section. AFFECTS: eventInstanceId, eventInstanceName |
| STR eventInstanceId | 1.3.6.1.4.1.890.1.5.8.16.26.1.1.1.5 | DisplayString | read-only | This variable represents the InstanceId of a particular event in the event current table. In brief the instanceId refers to the sub-component generating this event in the system, for example '1' for port 1. For more details see the textual conventions section. DEPENDS ON: eventInstanceType |
| STR eventInstanceName | 1.3.6.1.4.1.890.1.5.8.16.26.1.1.1.6 | DisplayString | read-only | This variable is mainly used to store additional information about the sub-component that is generating an event. For example this field may specify what cooling fan is faulty. DEPENDS ON: eventInstanceType |
| EVE eventSeverity | 1.3.6.1.4.1.890.1.5.8.16.26.1.1.1.7 | EventSeverity | read-only | This variable dictates the urgency of action when a event occurs. There are four severity levels - Critical, Major, Minor, and Informational. Critical events are those, which require immediate operator intervention to prevent/reduce system down time. Major events require quick attention and Minor events possibly require some attention. Informational events indicate the occurrence of events that may need to be investigated. |
| UTC eventSetTime | 1.3.6.1.4.1.890.1.5.8.16.26.1.1.1.8 | UtcTimeStamp | read-only | This table contains only normal events and this variable represents the time when the event become active, i.e. the number of seconds since Jan 1, 1970 12:00AM. |
| STR eventDescription | 1.3.6.1.4.1.890.1.5.8.16.26.1.1.1.9 | DisplayString | read-only | This variable contains a description of the event and reasons behind the event. This is a free format alpha-numeric string that is set by the entity generating this event. This variable may be empty if there is no usefull information to report. The maximum length of this string is 255 characters. |
| EVE eventServAffective | 1.3.6.1.4.1.890.1.5.8.16.26.1.1.1.10 | EventServiceAffective | read-only | This variable indicates whether the event is service affective or not |
