Category: Alarm and Fault Management, Environmental Monitoring

Description: Defines Zhone Technologies generic alarm objects for fault severity, source identification, and event logging.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ZHONE-GEN-ALARM?

ZHONE-GEN-ALARM is Zhone Technologies' centralized/generic alarm MIB, providing a common object framework for representing hardware and software fault conditions across the vendor's broadband access product line. It exposes categories such as alarm severity, alarm source/origin identification, and event/alarm logging entries -- a unified fault-management data model rather than a single subsystem's data. It is central to monitoring hardware and software status broadly: subordinate Zhone alarm modules (e.g. file-system, voice, wireless) likely report through this shared alarm object structure, so it indirectly surfaces things like storage, voice, or wireless-link faults raised elsewhere in the device. It depends on / underlies vendor-specific alarm submodules (such as ZHONE-FS-ALARM), acting as the common alarm schema for the Zhone enterprise MIB tree. It is deployed across the full range of Zhone access and gateway devices, where ZHONE-GEN-ALARM SNMP monitoring forms the backbone of the vendor's unified fault/event management system.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZHONE-GEN-ALARM. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Zhone broadband access and gateway devices

Monitoring Examples

No sample object names were supplied for this MIB. An operator would typically poll or trap-receive generic alarm entries carrying severity (critical/major/minor), source identifier, and timestamp/log fields to build a unified alarm dashboard; a spike of high-severity generic alarms from a given source would flag a developing hardware or software fault requiring investigation.

What Can Be Monitored

  • alarm severity level
  • alarm source identification
  • alarm event log entries
  • fault event timestamps
