What Is XYLANPNNI-MIB?
XYLANPNNI-MIB is a vendor-specific enterprise MIB from Xylan Corporation (later absorbed into Alcatel) that extends the ATM Forum's standard PNNI (Private Network-to-Network Interface) MIB with additional objects for Xylan OmniSwitch ATM switches. It exposes data on PNNI node naming and hierarchy, address-prefix filtering rules used to control route advertisement, and inter-domain adjacency (I-Adjacency) relationships within the ATM routing topology. Rather than classic hardware sensors, its monitoring value lies in software/protocol status: node and adjacency operational state reveal whether the ATM control plane is healthy, converged, and correctly filtering reachability information, which is the functional equivalent of a software-health signal for the PNNI routing process. It is explicitly built as an add-on to the ATM Forum's standard PNNI MIB and cannot be fully interpreted without that base specification. It was typically deployed in legacy carrier or large-enterprise ATM backbones built on Xylan/Alcatel OmniSwitch hardware for hierarchical PNNI-based call routing. Engineers can download the XYLANPNNI-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll xPnniAssociativeNameTable/xPnniNameEntry, keyed by xPnniNodeIndex, to resolve xPnniNodeId values into human-readable xPnniNodeName strings for topology diagrams and fault reports. Checking xPnniAddressFilterTable/xPnniAddressFilterEntry (xPnniFiltNodeLevel, xPnniFiltSrcPrefix/xPnniFiltSrcPrefLen, xPnniFiltDestPrefix/xPnniFiltDestPrefLen) shows which ATM address prefixes are filtered at a given PNNI hierarchy level, helping diagnose unexpected loss of reachability. Reviewing xPnniIAdjGroup objects confirms whether expected inter-domain adjacencies are up, which would reveal a routing peer failure if absent.
