Description: Xedia-proprietary SONET link management extending the standard SONET MIB with additional section, line, and path status objects for Xedia WAN devices
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is XEDIA-SONET-MIB?
XEDIA-SONET-MIB is a Xedia-proprietary extension to the standard IETF SONET MIB, adding richer section, line, and path status objects for SONET interfaces on Xedia WAN routers. It exposes performance/fault data organized around SONET's layered structure: medium/loopback configuration plus current and interval status counters at the section, line, and path levels. Its monitoring role is squarely hardware/link status -- xsonetSectionStatus, xsonetLineStatus, and xsonetPathStatus reveal SONET framing/signal faults at each protocol layer, and the interval tables let operators track error history over time for hardware fault diagnosis. It explicitly depends on and extends the standard SONET MIB (RFC 1595/2558), reusing its layered model while adding Xedia-specific detail. It is deployed on Xedia WAN routers/access devices connected via SONET optical links in carrier or enterprise WAN backbones, making this XEDIA-SONET-MIB reference useful for diagnosing SONET-layer faults on Xedia hardware.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in XEDIA-SONET-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Xedia WAN access routers/switches with SONET interfaces
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll xSonetSectionCurrentTable's xsonetSectionCurrentStatus to catch an active section-layer alarm (such as loss of signal) on a SONET interface, then check xSonetSectionIntervalTable's xsonetSectionIntervalStatus to see how many 15-minute intervals had errors, helping distinguish a transient glitch from a persistent fiber problem. xsonetLineStatus and xsonetPathStatus would similarly be checked to isolate whether a fault is at the line or path layer. xsonetLoopbackConfig would be inspected/set when running a loopback test to isolate a suspected hardware fault on the SONET interface.
What Can Be Monitored
- SONET section/line/path status (alarms/faults)
- loopback configuration
- current-interval error counters
- historical interval error counters
- SONET medium configuration
