Description: Xedia DS3 extension MIB adding vendor-specific line-status indicators and performance counters beyond the standard DS3 MIB for Xedia devices
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is XEDIA-DS3-MIB?
XEDIA-DS3-MIB is a vendor extension from Xedia Corporation (a WAN access router vendor later part of Lucent) that adds objects for managing DS3 (T3, 45 Mbps) links on Xedia devices, supplementing the standard DS3 MIB and related proposed drafts. It exposes configuration data such as line status, loopback status, and scrambling settings via xDsx3ConfigTable, along with near-real-time performance counters for framing and block errors via xDsx3CurrentTable. This is direct hardware/physical-layer status monitoring: xdsx3LineStatus and xdsx3LoopbackStatus reveal whether a DS3 port is in service, down, or stuck in a test loopback, while error counters expose degrading line quality before an outage occurs. The module description explicitly states it extends the standard DS3 MIB and proposed IETF drafts rather than replacing them. It is deployed on Xedia WAN access routers or multiplexers terminating leased DS3 circuits. Engineers can download the XEDIA-DS3-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in XEDIA-DS3-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Xedia WAN access router / DS3 (T3) line card
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll xdsx3LineStatus and xdsx3LoopbackStatus per row of xDsx3ConfigTable to confirm a DS3 port is in service and not stuck in test loopback, and would monitor xdsx3CurrentFBEs, xdsx3CurrentFEBEs, xdsx3CurrentPBESs, and xdsx3CurrentCBESs in xDsx3CurrentTable to catch a rising rate of framing or block errors signaling a degrading circuit.
What Can Be Monitored
- DS3 line status
- loopback status
- line scrambling configuration
- framing bit errors (FBE)
- far-end block errors (FEBE)
- P-bit/C-bit errored seconds

RFC description
Xedia DS3/E3 interface MIB for managing and monitoring DS3 (Digital Signal level 3) interface configuration and statistics on Xedia routers.
Start monitoring Xedia WAN access router / DS3 (T3) line card (line-status/loopback/framing-error status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
