Description: Manages Wellfleet multiprotocol controller module parameters and per-protocol traffic statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Wellfleet-WFMPC-MIB?

The Wellfleet-WFMPC-MIB is a Wellfleet Communications proprietary MIB for the Multiprotocol Controller (MPC) module on Wellfleet routers, a hardware interface card capable of handling multiple WAN or LAN protocols simultaneously. It exposes module-specific configuration objects and per-protocol traffic statistics counters tracking how much traffic each supported protocol is forwarding through the controller. Its monitoring focus combines hardware and software status: it confirms the physical controller module is operational and lets an operator see which protocols on that card are actively passing traffic versus idle or erroring, useful for capacity planning and fault isolation on shared hardware. It works in conjunction with protocol-specific Wellfleet MIBs (such as X.25, GRE, or Frame Relay MIBs) that describe the logical circuits running over this physical controller. It was deployed on Wellfleet/Bay Networks chassis routers carrying mixed-protocol WAN traffic on a single controller card. Engineers can download the Wellfleet-WFMPC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Wellfleet-WFMPC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Wellfleet router with multiprotocol controller card
  • Bay Networks/Nortel chassis router

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls the WFMPC module's hardware status to confirm the controller card is running normally, then reviews the per-protocol traffic counters to see the split of, say, Frame Relay versus X.25 traffic on the same card. A protocol whose counters flatline while the card's overall status stays 'up' suggests a configuration or software fault specific to that protocol rather than a hardware failure.

What Can Be Monitored

  • controller module operational status
  • per-protocol traffic counters
  • module hardware configuration
  • protocol-specific error counts
