Description: Tracks BOOTP relay agent configuration and forwarding statistics on Wellfleet equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Wellfleet-BOOTP-MIB?

Wellfleet-BOOTP-MIB is a proprietary MIB from Wellfleet Communications/Bay Networks that monitors the BOOTP relay agent function on its routers, which forwards BOOTP (and by extension early DHCP-style) requests from clients on a local segment to a remote BOOTP/DHCP server. It exposes configuration objects for the relay agent (such as target server addresses) and statistics counting forwarded requests and replies. It is a software-service monitoring MIB: administrators use it to confirm the relay agent is actively forwarding boot requests and to catch a spike in unanswered requests, which would indicate clients failing to obtain their boot configuration. It depends conceptually on the standard BOOTP/DHCP protocol behavior defined by IETF RFCs, though it is implemented as a Wellfleet-proprietary management module. It was typically deployed on Wellfleet/Bay Networks routers acting as the default gateway for subnets where diskless workstations or early network devices relied on BOOTP for startup configuration, and administrators today typically consult a Wellfleet-BOOTP-MIB MIB Browser view when restoring or documenting these legacy relay-agent objects.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Wellfleet-BOOTP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Wellfleet/Bay Networks routers (legacy)

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were provided, so this is inferred: an administrator would poll the BOOTP relay statistics to see counts of forwarded requests versus replies for a given interface. A rising count of forwarded requests with no corresponding increase in replies would indicate the configured BOOTP server is unreachable or not responding, leaving client devices unable to boot.

What Can Be Monitored

  • BOOTP relay agent configuration
  • forwarded request/reply counts
  • configured relay target server addresses
