Category: Wellfleet BayNetworks Routing Protocols

Description: Monitors Wellfleet BGP peer sessions, route advertisements, and path attribute statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Wellfleet-BGP-MIB?

Wellfleet-BGP-MIB is a proprietary MIB from Wellfleet Communications/Bay Networks that monitors the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) implementation on its routers. It exposes data on BGP peer sessions, the routes each peer advertises, and path-attribute statistics associated with those routes. As a routing-protocol MIB it is primarily used to monitor software/protocol health: whether a BGP peer session is established, how many prefixes are being received or advertised, and whether route counts or attributes change unexpectedly -- key indicators of routing instability or misconfiguration. It closely parallels (and predates broad adoption of) the standard IETF BGP4-MIB, sharing similar peer-table concepts adapted to Wellfleet's own OID structure. It was typically deployed on Wellfleet/Bay Networks routers acting as BGP speakers at network edges or in ISP/enterprise WAN cores, and administrators can download the Wellfleet-BGP-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Wellfleet-BGP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Wellfleet/Bay Networks router (legacy)

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were provided, so this is inferred from the description: an administrator would poll the BGP peer table to check each peer's session state and the number of routes received from it. A peer whose session unexpectedly drops from 'established' to 'idle', or whose received-route count suddenly falls to zero, would indicate a BGP session reset or a route-filtering/policy problem needing investigation.

What Can Be Monitored

  • BGP peer session state
  • routes advertised/received per peer
  • path attribute statistics
  • BGP session state transitions
