What Is WS-SW-ARP-MIB?

WS-SW-ARP-MIB is a Symbol Technologies enterprise MIB for the ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) functionality of a wireless switch, exposing the switch's ARP cache entries, proxy-ARP settings, and address-resolution status. It surfaces networking/configuration data mapping IP addresses to MAC addresses as learned or configured on the switch, along with proxy ARP enablement. It supports monitoring the software/networking status of the switch by letting an admin verify that expected hosts are being resolved correctly and that proxy ARP behavior is functioning as configured, which is useful when diagnosing connectivity issues on the wireless LAN. As one of Symbol's WS-* switch MIBs it is meant to be used alongside sibling IP and ARP-adjacent modules on the same device rather than standing alone, and its concepts mirror the standard IP-MIB/RFC 1213 ipNetToMediaTable notion of ARP tables. It is deployed in enterprise wireless LAN environments where a Symbol wireless switch handles client IP-to-MAC resolution and administrators troubleshoot client connectivity by inspecting the switch's ARP table. Engineers can download the WS-SW-ARP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WS-SW-ARP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Symbol Technologies/Motorola/Zebra wireless switch controller

Monitoring Examples

No concrete object names were supplied for this MIB, so a specific object-level scenario cannot be honestly detailed beyond its stated ARP-table/proxy-ARP purpose. In general use, an admin would expect to poll the switch's ARP table and see a missing or stale entry for a client's IP address, indicating that address resolution for that client is failing.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ARP table entries (IP-to-MAC mappings)
  • proxy ARP configuration/status
