Description: Manages Symbol Technologies wireless switch VPN tunnel configuration, authentication, and connection status.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is WS-SEC-VPN-MIB?
WS-SEC-VPN-MIB is a Symbol Technologies enterprise MIB for managing VPN functionality on a wireless switch/controller, covering tunnel configuration, authentication settings, and connection status. It exposes data about configured VPN tunnels, their authentication parameters, and whether each tunnel is currently up or down. It supports monitoring the software status of the switch's security services by revealing tunnel connection state, letting an admin confirm site-to-site or remote-access VPN connectivity is intact. As part of Symbol's WS-* security/switching MIB family, it is designed to complement sibling modules such as the ARP and IP MIBs on the same switch rather than operate in isolation. It is deployed in enterprise wireless environments where a Symbol wireless switch terminates VPN tunnels back to a data center or between sites, and administrators need to confirm those tunnels remain established. Engineers can download the WS-SEC-VPN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WS-SEC-VPN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Symbol Technologies/Motorola/Zebra wireless switch controller
Monitoring Examples
No concrete object names were supplied for this MIB beyond a truncated revision/description string, so a specific object-level scenario cannot be honestly detailed. In general use, an admin would expect to poll a VPN tunnel-status object per configured tunnel and treat a down state as an indication of a failed authentication handshake or a network path outage to the remote endpoint.
What Can Be Monitored
- VPN tunnel connection status
- VPN authentication configuration
