Description: IETF MIB for Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP) over IPv6, managing virtual router operations, statistics, and failover notifications on IPv6 routers

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is VRRP-IPv6-MIB?

VRRP-IPv6-MIB is a vendor-neutral IETF standards-track MIB (per the RFC draft text embedded in its description) for managing Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol operating over IPv6, allowing a set of routers to share a virtual IP address for first-hop router failover. It defines objects for virtual router operational configuration, per-router statistics, and notifications, covering configuration, performance-counter, and fault/trap categories. Its core monitoring value is software/protocol status: tracking which router in a VRRP group currently holds the Master role, how often failovers occur, and protocol statistics like advertisement counts, which together reveal instability in first-hop redundancy such as flapping between Master and Backup. It is a companion to the IPv4 VRRP MIB (RFC 2787/5798 lineage) and depends on the base VRRP protocol standard it manages. It's deployed on any IPv6-capable router participating in a VRRP redundancy group, typically at LAN default-gateway boundaries, with implementers consulting the VRRP-IPv6-MIB RFC for the authoritative object definitions.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in VRRP-IPv6-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • IPv6 router participating in VRRP redundancy group

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were provided in the source data for this MIB, so specific table/object names cannot be cited with confidence; based on its RFC-derived module description, a real deployment would poll virtual router state (Master/Backup) and advertisement statistics per VRRP-IPv6 group to detect unexpected failovers, but this cannot be grounded in concrete object names from the available data.

What Can Be Monitored

  • VRRP virtual router state (Master/Backup)
  • VRRP failover/transition events
  • VRRP advertisement statistics
