Description: Defines VMware virtual appliance SNMP agent capabilities and supported management object groups.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is VMWARE-VA-AGENTCAP-MIB?
VMWARE-VA-AGENTCAP-MIB is a VMware MIB in the AGENT-CAPABILITIES format, used to declare which SNMP object groups and features the SNMP agent embedded in a VMware virtual appliance supports for a given software release. Rather than exposing runtime data itself, it documents agent conformance, i.e., which management object groups from VMware's other virtual-appliance MIBs are implemented and at what capability level per release. It has no monitoring value on its own since AGENT-CAPABILITIES modules are declarative conformance statements rather than data sources; the actual hardware/software status data such as VM health or resource usage is exposed by the separate VMware virtual-appliance MIBs this module references. Its explicit dependency is on the companion VMware Virtual Appliance MIBs whose supported object groups it enumerates. It would be referenced by SNMP management tools during MIB compilation/compatibility checks against VMware virtual appliances such as the vCenter Server Appliance, consulting the VMWARE-VA-AGENTCAP-MIB MIB rather than polling it directly for monitoring data.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in VMWARE-VA-AGENTCAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- VMware virtual appliance (e.g., vCenter Server Appliance)
Monitoring Examples
This module is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance statement (its only object is vmwVACapability), so it does not expose runtime monitorable data; it simply declares, per VMware virtual appliance software release, which object groups from the related VMware MIBs the agent supports. There is no realistic polling scenario for this module beyond a management station checking agent capability during MIB compilation.
