Description: Manages extended XGCP/MGCP gateway protocol parameters on Cisco VISM voice service modules.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is VISM-XGCP-EXTENSION-MIB?

This is a Cisco MIB extending XGCP (the generalized MGCP/SGCP protocol family) configuration on VISM (Voice Interworking Service Module) cards used in Cisco MGX/BPX ATM voice gateway platforms. It exposes protocol timers and ports, a table of configured signaling peers, and per-peer message statistics including connection-creation (CRCX) success and failure counts. Its monitoring value is software/call-signaling status: rising CRCX failure counts relative to total attempts on a given peer IP reveal call-setup problems, while the peer table confirms which gateway peers and ports are actually configured. It is an extension of the base VISM-MIB and relates to the MGCP/SGCP protocol standards that XGCP generalizes. It is deployed on Cisco MGX/BPX ATM voice gateway shelves providing VoIP/voice trunking interworking functions. Engineers can download the VISM-XGCP-EXTENSION-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in VISM-XGCP-EXTENSION-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco VISM voice service modules (MGX/BPX ATM voice gateways)

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll vismXgcpMsgStatTable indexed by vismXgcpIpAddress to compare vismXgcpCrcxCnts against vismXgcpCrcxFailCnts - a rising failure count relative to total CRCX attempts signals call-setup problems with a specific peer - while vismXgcpPeerTable entries (vismXgcpPeerNumber, vismXgcpPeerProtocolNumber, vismXgcpPeerPort) confirm which gateway peers and ports are configured, and vismXgcpRequestMaxTimeout controls how long the module waits before treating a signaling request as failed.

What Can Be Monitored

  • CRCX connection success/failure counts
  • configured XGCP peers
  • peer protocol/port configuration
  • request timeout setting
  • message statistics per peer IP
