What Is Unisphere-Data-DNS-MIB?
Unisphere-Data-DNS-MIB is a Unisphere Networks (later Juniper ERX) enterprise module that manages DNS proxy functionality on the ERX broadband edge router, covering name server addressing and local domain name resolution configuration. Its data is configuration and operational, including a global DNS enable flag, an indexed list of configured DNS server addresses, and a list of local domain names used for resolution, along with row-status control for each entry. Monitoring value here is centered on verifying DNS proxy service configuration and reachability: confirming DNS is enabled where expected, that the configured name server list matches intended upstream resolvers, and that local domain search entries are correct, which helps diagnose subscriber-facing name resolution failures. It operates as part of the Unisphere/ERX enterprise MIB family and conceptually relates to standard DNS resolver configuration semantics defined by IETF DNS RFCs, though implemented as vendor-specific objects. It is deployed on Unisphere/Juniper ERX broadband edge routers providing DNS proxy service to downstream subscriber sessions. Engineers can download the Unisphere-Data-DNS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Unisphere-Data-DNS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Unisphere/Juniper ERX broadband edge router
Monitoring Examples
An administrator checks usdDnsEnable to confirm DNS proxy service is turned on, then reviews usdDnsServerListTable/usdDnsServerListEntry entries (keyed by usdDnsServerListIndex) to validate each usdDnsServerListAddress against the expected upstream resolvers. If subscribers report failed name resolution, comparing usdDnsLocalDomainNameListTable entries and their usdDnsLocalDomainNameListName values against the intended search domain, along with each entry's usdDnsServerListRowStatus, can reveal a removed or misconfigured DNS server entry.
What Can Be Monitored
- DNS proxy enable state
- configured DNS server addresses
- local domain name list
- server/domain entry row status
