Description: Manages Unisphere ERX IP tunnel interface configuration, encapsulation type, and tunnel endpoints.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is Unisphere-Data-IP-TUNNEL-MIB?
This is the enterprise IP Tunnel MIB for Unisphere Networks' ERX Edge Router Switch line, modeling GRE/DVMRP-style IP tunnel interfaces. It exposes tunnel configuration data such as tunnel name, mode, encapsulation checksum setting, MTU, and source/destination endpoint addresses via usdIpTunnelInterfaceTable. Its monitoring value is largely configuration/software status: verifying a tunnel's usdIpTunnelSource/usdIpTunnelDestination pairing is correct and that usdIpTunnelRowStatus shows the tunnel administratively up, which is essential to diagnosing a tunnel that has silently gone down. It depends on the standard ifIndex interface model (each tunnel gets an ifIndex via usdIpTunnelNextIfIndex) and relates to the companion Unisphere IP MIB for underlying routed interfaces. It is deployed on ERX routers building GRE-based overlay networks or multicast tunnels (DVMRP) across a service-provider backbone. Engineers can download the Unisphere-Data-IP-TUNNEL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Unisphere-Data-IP-TUNNEL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Juniper/Unisphere ERX Edge Router
Monitoring Examples
An operator troubleshooting a broken overlay would walk usdIpTunnelInterfaceTable/usdIpTunnelInterfaceEntry keyed by usdIpTunnelIfIndex, checking usdIpTunnelSource and usdIpTunnelDestination against expected endpoints and usdIpTunnelRowStatus to confirm the tunnel entry is active. A mismatched usdIpTunnelMtu could explain fragmentation issues, while usdIpTunnelMode and usdIpTunnelChecksum settings would be compared against the peer router's configuration to rule out an encapsulation mismatch. usdIpTunnelName provides a human-readable label for correlating the tunnel with its provisioning record.
What Can Be Monitored
- tunnel interface source/destination
- tunnel mode and checksum setting
- tunnel MTU
- tunnel row status
- tunnel name
- virtual router association
