Category: UPS and Power Management

Description: Defines SNMP trap notifications for UMC1000 media converter events including link and module failures.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is UMC1000TRAPS?

UMC1000TRAPS is a vendor-specific SNMP notification (trap) MIB defining alarm and status event traps for the UMC1000 media converter, a device that converts between fiber and copper (or different fiber) physical media in telecom/carrier networks. It exposes no polled data objects itself, only trap definitions that fire on link failures, module failures, and general alarm/status events on the converter. Its entire purpose is fault monitoring: it signals hardware and module-level problems such as a failed optical or copper link, a failed conversion module, or another alarm condition that requires checking the device's alarm details or TL1 message log for severity. It has an implicit dependency on the device's alarm/TL1 subsystem, since the trap text explicitly directs the operator to consult TL1 messages for further detail. It is typically deployed in telecom/carrier access networks using UMC1000 media converters to bridge fiber and copper segments, feeding traps into an NMS or trap receiver for real-time fault alerting. Engineers can download the UMC1000TRAPS file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in UMC1000TRAPS. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ubiquoss/UMC1000 fiber-to-copper media converter

Monitoring Examples

This module contains only trap/notification definitions and no polled data tables or sample objects, so there is no ongoing monitoring scenario to poll; instead, an NMS configured as a trap receiver would receive an alarm trap whenever a UMC1000 link or module fails. Upon receiving such a trap, the operator would need to consult the device's alarm details or TL1 message log (as instructed in the module description) to determine actual severity, since the trap itself does not encode granular fault detail.
