Category: Testing and Diagnostics

Description: Provides Cisco Systems test MIB objects for diagnostic and verification functions.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Test?

Despite its generic name "Test," this module is actually an AGENT-CAPABILITIES statement from Cisco Systems that declares which parts of CISCO-L2-CONTROL-MIB a particular Cisco device/software image implements — a conformance/compatibility declaration rather than a data-bearing MIB. It does not itself expose scalars or tables of operational data; instead it documents which groups of objects (and possibly which variations) from CISCO-L2-CONTROL-MIB are supported, and by whom. Consequently it has no direct role in monitoring runtime hardware or software status such as uptime, temperature, or CPU load — its "status" information is static implementation conformance metadata evaluated at MIB-compilation/compatibility-checking time rather than something an NMS polls at runtime. It is entirely dependent on and meaningless without CISCO-L2-CONTROL-MIB, whose object groups it references. It would be encountered by NMS/MIB-compiler tooling checking feature/object support on a given Cisco IOS or IOS-XE device before attempting to poll CISCO-L2-CONTROL-MIB objects on it. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the Test file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Test. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Systems switch/router running IOS or IOS-XE

Monitoring Examples

This is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module, not a runtime data MIB — it lists which object groups of CISCO-L2-CONTROL-MIB a given Cisco device claims to support, so there are no pollable scalar/table objects and no realistic monitoring scenario to describe; a management tool would consult it only to check feature support before polling CISCO-L2-CONTROL-MIB itself.
