Category: DSL and xDSL Access, Testing and Diagnostics
Description: Covers initiation and results of BERT and diagnostic test sessions on Terawave DSL access equipment.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is TERAWAVE-teratest-MIB?
TERAWAVE-teratest-MIB is a vendor-specific SNMP module for the Terawave teraAccess platform that manages on-demand diagnostic test sessions, such as BERT (Bit Error Rate Test) runs, against specific line/circuit targets identified by slot, interface index, and ATM VPI/VCI. It exposes a test table where an operator specifies the test type and target, then reads back a timestamped result. Its monitoring value is diagnostic rather than continuous: teraTestResult and teraTestResultTimeStamp let an operator confirm whether a manually or programmatically triggered line/circuit test passed or failed, which is useful for validating hardware/circuit integrity on demand rather than through passive polling. It naturally pairs with the platform's DS3 and connection MIBs (TERAWAVE-teraU-ds3-MIB, TERAWAVE-teraCon-MIB) since those define the physical/logical circuits a test can target. It is used in DSL/ATM access troubleshooting scenarios where a technician or NMS relies on TERAWAVE-teratest-MIB SNMP monitoring to initiate a BERT or loopback test on a suspect circuit and poll for completion and outcome.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TERAWAVE-teratest-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Terawave teraAccess DSL/ATM access platform
Monitoring Examples
A technician troubleshooting a suspect circuit would create a teraTestTable entry specifying teraTestSourceSlot, teraTestTargetIfIndex, teraTestTargetVpi/teraTestTargetVci, and teraTestType (e.g., BERT), then poll teraTestResult and teraTestResultTimeStamp to see whether the test completed successfully or flagged errors. teraTestTargetDirection would be set to indicate whether the test runs upstream, downstream, or both. teraTestMoreInfo would surface additional diagnostic detail if the test result indicates a failure, aiding root-cause analysis of a degraded DSL/ATM circuit.
What Can Be Monitored
- diagnostic test type and target circuit
- test source slot and direction
- test result status
- test completion timestamp
