Category: DSL and xDSL Access, Testing and Diagnostics
Description: Manages Terawave DSL access bit error rate testing and BERT session results.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is TERAWAVE-teraBERT-MIB?
The TERAWAVE-teraBERT-MIB is a vendor-specific SNMP module from Terawave Communications for configuring and monitoring Bit Error Rate Test (BERT) sessions on its DSL/broadband access equipment. It exposes configuration tables for setting up a BERT session (test pattern, duration, sync and severely-errored-second thresholds) plus current-result tables reporting live test status. Its monitoring emphasis is on line/circuit quality rather than chassis hardware — tracking BERT command state, synchronization status, elapsed test time, and error-threshold results to assess whether a DSL loop or circuit is transmitting cleanly, effectively a software-driven diagnostic of the physical line's signal integrity. It is a standalone vendor test-facility MIB with no clear dependency on IETF standard MIBs. It is deployed by broadband access operators running Terawave DSL access equipment to schedule and review BERT diagnostics on subscriber loops or trunk circuits. Engineers can download the TERAWAVE-teraBERT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TERAWAVE-teraBERT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Terawave DSL access multiplexer / broadband access equipment
Monitoring Examples
An operator would set teraBERTCommand and teraBERTPattern in teraBERTConfigureTable/teraBERTConfigureTableEntry to start a test with a given bit pattern for teraBERTTestTime, then check teraBERTCurrentTable/teraBERTCurrentTableEntry for teraBERTSynStatus and teraBERTElapsedTime to see whether the circuit is synchronized and how far the test has progressed. If the severely-errored-second limits defined by teraBERTSESThresholdMantissa/teraBERTSESThresholdExponent are exceeded, or teraBERTSynStatus shows loss of sync, that flags a degraded or faulty DSL loop needing attention.
What Can Be Monitored
- BERT test command/status
- test pattern in use
- test elapsed time / configured duration
- line synchronization status
- severely-errored-seconds threshold
- current BERT session results
