What Is TRANGO-P5M-MIB?

TRANGO-P5M-MIB is a proprietary MIB from Trango Systems for its Atlas P5M point-to-multipoint fixed wireless backhaul product line, used to link a base station to multiple subscriber radio units. It exposes hardware and firmware version identifiers, the device MAC address, operating-mode configuration/state, SNMP community-string settings, and radio behavior options such as automatic rate shifting and signal scanning. It is particularly useful for monitoring the hardware and software status of each radio unit, verifying installed hardware revision (verHW) and firmware revision (verFW), and confirming whether a unit is currently operating in its configured mode (sysCurrentOpmode vs. sysDefaultOpmode). The MIB is self-contained under Trango's private enterprise tree with no apparent dependency on external standard MIBs. It is typically deployed by wireless ISPs and enterprises operating point-to-multipoint backhaul links to remote sites or towers. Engineers can download the TRANGO-P5M-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

sysCurrentOpmode compared against sysDefaultOpmode and sysActivateOpmode lets an admin verify a subscriber unit's master/slave role after activation, while verHW and verFW confirm hardware and firmware revisions on that unit. sysswAutoRateShiftingEnable indicates whether the link auto-adjusts modulation for changing radio conditions, and sysswAutoScanMUSignal shows whether the unit is auto-scanning for the strongest signal, both useful when diagnosing an unstable backhaul link.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using systrafficEthInOctets OID:

Select a Trango Systems Atlas P5M point-to-multipoint wireless backhaul radio (hardware/firmware revision status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type systrafficEthInOctets into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports the number of payload octets received on Ethernet port. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
