What Is TRANGO-APEX-MODEM-MIB?

TRANGO-APEX-MODEM-MIB is a Trango Systems MIB covering the modem/RF subsystem of the Apex family of point-to-point wireless backhaul radios. It exposes radio link performance data such as bit error rate, mean square error, frame error rate, demodulator lock states, and adaptive coding/modulation (ACM) profile settings. Its primary monitoring value is hardware/link-quality status: operators watch the lock indicators and error-rate counters to detect a microwave link that is losing synchronization or degrading due to weather, interference, or misalignment. As a vendor-specific radio MIB it has no dependency on standard IETF MIBs beyond basic SNMP conventions, but it is used alongside TRANGO-APEX-SYS-MIB for a full device picture. It is deployed on Trango Apex wireless backhaul links used by wireless ISPs and cellular backhaul operators for point-to-point microwave connectivity, and technicians commonly start with a TRANGO-APEX-MODEM-MIB download to load these objects into their monitoring platform.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TRANGO-APEX-MODEM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • bit error rate (BER)
  • mean square error (MSE)
  • frame error rate (FER)
  • modem lock status (timing/preamble/LDPC)
  • adaptive coding modulation (ACM) profile
  • loopback mode

Supported Devices

  • Trango Systems Apex wireless backhaul radio/modem

Monitoring Examples

Polling modemBER, modemMSE, and modemFER yields the current bit error rate, mean square error, and frame error rate of the radio link, while modemLockStatus, modemTimingLock, modemPreambleLock, and modemLdpcLock indicate whether the demodulator has achieved and maintained synchronization. A sudden loss of modemLdpcLock or a spike in modemBER signals a degrading microwave link that likely needs realignment or interference troubleshooting, and modemACMEnable together with modemACMProfileQPSKEnable shows whether adaptive modulation has stepped down to a more robust, lower-throughput profile in response.
