Category: Link Layer and Ethernet Protocols

Description: Monitors TP-Link switch Ethernet OAM PDU transmission and reception statistics per port.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TPLINK-ETHERNETOAMPDUSTAT-MIB?

TPLINK-ETHERNETOAMPDUSTAT-MIB is a private TP-Link enterprise MIB that monitors Ethernet OAM (IEEE 802.3ah) protocol data unit statistics on a per-port basis, tracking counts of OAM PDUs transmitted and received on each interface. It exposes performance-counter category data specific to the OAM control channel rather than general traffic statistics. Its monitoring value is squarely in the software/protocol-health domain: verifying that an OAM session is actively exchanging PDUs on a given port is a proxy for confirming the link-level OAM heartbeat is alive, so a stalled or zero PDU count indicates the OAM session (and potentially the underlying link) has failed even if the physical link still shows up. It is a companion module to TPLINK-ETHERNETOAMBASICCFG-MIB, depending on that module's per-port OAM configuration being enabled for these counters to be meaningful. It is deployed on TP-Link managed switches wherever Ethernet OAM is used to monitor link health toward a peer device, such as at a service demarcation point, and administrators can download the TPLINK-ETHERNETOAMPDUSTAT-MIB file to load into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TPLINK-ETHERNETOAMPDUSTAT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • TP-Link managed Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

No sample object names were provided, but consistent with the module's stated purpose an admin would poll a per-port PDU statistics table for OAM PDUs transmitted and received counts, where a port showing OAM enabled (per TPLINK-ETHERNETOAMBASICCFG-MIB) but zero or stalled received PDU counts indicates the OAM session with the link partner has dropped, signaling a link-level fault worth investigating.

What Can Be Monitored

  • OAM PDUs transmitted per port
  • OAM PDUs received per port
  • OAM session activity/heartbeat status

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using ethernetOamPduStatInfoTx OID:

Select a TP-Link managed Ethernet switch (OAM PDU transmit/receive counter status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type ethernetOamPduStatInfoTx into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. Displays the number of information OAMPDUs transmitted on the port. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
