Description: Manages TP-Link switch Layer 2 bridge configuration, MAC learning, and flooding behavior.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TPLINK-L2BRIDGE-MIB?

TPLINK-L2BRIDGE-MIB is a TP-Link proprietary MIB (registered under tplinkMgmt) that manages Layer 2 bridge configuration on TP-Link switches, covering MAC address learning, filtering, and flooding behavior. Its object tree splits into tpl2BridgeManageStaticAddrCtrl (a table of manually-configured static MAC/VLAN/port bindings, keyed by tpl2BridgeManageStaticMac and tpl2BridgeManageStaticVlanId, with a TPRowStatus lifecycle field), tpl2BridgeManageDynAddrCtrl for dynamically-learned addresses, tpl2BridgeManageFilterAddrCtrl for addresses to be dropped rather than forwarded, tpl2BridgeManageVlanSecurityCtrl, and tpl2BridgeManageNotificationCtrl. Six NOTIFICATION-TYPE events report FDB (forwarding database) activity: fdbDynMacNew and fdbStaticMacNew fire when a new dynamic or static address is learned, fdbFilterMacNew when a filtered address is learned, fdbMacTableFull and fdbMacMaxLearnedNumExceed when the address table or a port's learning limit is exhausted, and fdbMacLearnModeChange when a port's learning mode changes after a port-security event. Because the static/dynamic/filter tables directly reflect the switch's forwarding behavior, monitoring them alongside the FDB traps reveals MAC-learning exhaustion or unexpected address churn that plain interface counters would not show. It is deployed on TP-Link managed switches, and administrators can download the TPLINK-L2BRIDGE-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser for decoding these bridge and FDB tables.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TPLINK-L2BRIDGE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • TP-Link managed Layer 2 switches

Monitoring Examples

An operator's trap receiver logs an fdbMacTableFull notification and the operator then polls tpl2BridgeManageDynAddrCtrl for a spike in learned dynamic entries; a full address table paired with fdbMacMaxLearnedNumExceed on a specific port would point to a MAC-flooding condition or a misbehaving downstream device on that port.

What Can Be Monitored

  • static MAC address bindings (MAC/VLAN/port)
  • dynamically learned MAC address entries
  • filtered (blocked) MAC address entries
  • FDB table-full and max-learned-exceeded notifications
  • new dynamic/static/filter MAC-learned notifications
  • port MAC-learning mode change notifications
