Description: Manages Transition Networks turnaround test loop configuration, activation, and status monitoring.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TN-TT-LOOP-MIB?

TN-TT-LOOP-MIB is a Transition Networks private MIB that configures and monitors traffic test loopbacks used for RFC 2544 and ITU-T Y.1564 service activation testing at the remote end of a link. It exposes configuration objects describing loop instances - name, domain, type, direction, associated flow/port, service level, and subscriber - as well as capability limits on how many loop instances and names a device supports. Its monitoring role centers on software/service-test status: confirming whether a diagnostic test loop is correctly configured and active on a given port to validate circuit performance, rather than reporting hardware sensors like temperature or power. It is a vendor-specific extension built on top of the standard ifIndex convention to bind loops to physical ports. It is typically deployed on Transition Networks Ethernet demarcation or access devices used by service providers performing SLA validation testing. Engineers can download the TN-TT-LOOP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TN-TT-LOOP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Transition Networks Ethernet demarcation/access device
  • Transition Networks media converter used for service testing
  • Transition Networks Ethernet demarcation/NID and media-converter devices used for RFC 2544/Y.1564 service testing (brand now part of Lantronix)

Monitoring Examples

An engineer configuring an RFC 2544/Y.1564 test would create an entry in tnTtLoopConfigInstanceTable (tnTtLoopConfigInstanceEntry), setting tnTtLoopConfigInstanceType and tnTtLoopConfigInstanceDirection to loop traffic back at the remote end for a specific tnTtLoopConfigInstanceFlow, tnTtLoopConfigInstancePort, and tnTtLoopConfigInstanceSubscriber. Polling tnTtLoopConfigInstanceDomain confirms the loop is active on the expected port before the SLA test runs; if the instance count approaches tnTtLoopCapabilitiesInstanceMax, no further test loops can be provisioned on that device.

What Can Be Monitored

  • test loop instance configuration
  • loop direction (local/remote)
  • loop type and associated port/flow
  • subscriber/service level assignment
  • loop capacity utilization (instance count vs max)
