What Is TPLINK-ETHERNETOAM-MIB?

TPLINK-ETHERNETOAM-MIB MIB is a TP-Link vendor-specific MIB implementing IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet OAM (Operations, Administration and Maintenance) for TP-Link managed switches, part of TP-Link's link-layer diagnostics feature set. It exposes configuration objects for globally and per-port enabling of Ethernet OAM, discovery mode, and link-fault indication behavior. Though mainly a configuration MIB, it supports monitoring the operational/software health of a switch's uplinks by exposing OAM discovery state and link-fault status, revealing whether peer negotiation succeeded or a physical link problem exists. It complements the companion TPLINK-ETHERNETOAMRMTLBCFG-MIB, which layers remote loopback testing on top of the OAM session established here, and both build on the IEEE 802.3ah Clause 57 OAM standard rather than a proprietary protocol. It is typically deployed on TP-Link managed L2/L3 switches at the edge of metro Ethernet or enterprise WAN links, where OAM is used to detect and localize link faults without a full protocol analyzer.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TPLINK-ETHERNETOAM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

An administrator enables Ethernet OAM globally and then on an uplink port, and polls the resulting OAM discovery/session state to confirm the local and remote OAM entities completed the 802.3ah handshake. If the discovery state doesn't reach an active/operational value, it flags a cabling fault, mismatched OAM mode, or a peer device that doesn't support OAM. Once a session is active on that port, TPLINK-ETHERNETOAMRMTLBCFG-MIB can be used to run a remote loopback test and confirm end-to-end link integrity.
