Category: Transition Networks Media Converters

Description: Manages Transition Networks digital diagnostic monitoring interface optic transceiver readings.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TN-DDMI-MIB?

TN-DDMI-MIB is a Transition Networks proprietary SNMP MIB implementing Digital Diagnostic Monitoring Interface (DDMI, per SFF-8472) support, exposing real-time optical transceiver diagnostics for SFP/SFP+ modules installed in Transition Networks switches and media converters. It provides per-interface status including whether DDM is supported and whether an SFP is detected, plus transceiver inventory fields such as vendor name, part number, serial number, hardware revision, and date code. It is fundamentally a hardware-status monitoring module: it lets an operator confirm an optical transceiver is physically present and DDM-capable, and identify exactly which vendor/part/serial transceiver is installed in each port, critical for detecting failed, unsupported, or counterfeit optics. It complements the standard IF-MIB since its table is indexed by ifIndex, tying transceiver diagnostics to a specific physical interface. It is deployed on Transition Networks Ethernet switches and media converters using pluggable SFP optics in enterprise or industrial network links. Engineers can download the TN-DDMI-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TN-DDMI-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Transition Networks Ethernet switch or media converter with SFP/SFP+ ports

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls tnDdmiStatusInterfaceTable/tnDdmiStatusInterfaceEntry keyed by tnDdmiStatusInterfaceIfIndex to check tnDdmiStatusInterfaceA0SfpDetected — a transition from detected to not-detected indicates an optic was physically removed or has failed. tnDdmiStatusInterfaceA0Vendor, tnDdmiStatusInterfaceA0PartNumber, and tnDdmiStatusInterfaceA0SerialNumber are cross-referenced against an approved-optics list to flag non-qualified transceivers. tnDdmiStatusInterfaceA0SfpType and tnDdmiStatusInterfaceA0DateCode help identify aging or mismatched-type optics across a fiber link.

What Can Be Monitored

  • SFP presence/detection per port
  • transceiver vendor/part/serial identity
  • hardware revision and date code
  • DDM support status
  • SFP type

RFC description

Transpacific MIB for Digital Diagnostic Monitoring Interface (DDMI) on optical transceivers; defines SFP/QSFP temperature and power readings.

Start monitoring Transition Networks Ethernet switch or media converter with SFP/SFP+ ports (optical transceiver DDM diagnostic status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
