Description: Manages Transition Networks device configuration storage, retrieval, and versioning.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TN-CONFIG-MIB?

TN-CONFIG-MIB is a Transition Networks proprietary MIB covering general device configuration management, including storage, retrieval, and versioning of a device's configuration data. It exposes objects related to configuration module naming and provides notification objects to alert on configuration-related events, situating it as a configuration-management and event-reporting MIB rather than a deep hardware-sensor MIB. It supports monitoring of software configuration status and change events on Transition Networks media converters and switches, letting an administrator track configuration version/module identity and be alerted via notifications when configuration is saved, changed, or fails, which helps catch unintended or failed configuration operations. As a proprietary module it appears self-contained, without an evident dependency on other standard MIBs. It is typically deployed on Transition Networks Ethernet media converters, switches, and network interface device products in enterprise and carrier access networks. Engineers can download the TN-CONFIG-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TN-CONFIG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Transition Networks media converter
  • Transition Networks managed switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll tnConfigModuleName to confirm the identity/version of the active configuration module on the device, and would watch for events raised under tnConfigNotifications indicating a configuration save, load, or failure event. An unexpected notification indicating configuration failure, or a mismatch in the reported module name/version after a change window, would reveal a configuration deployment problem. The broader tnConfigObjects branch groups the readable configuration state referenced by these operations.

What Can Be Monitored

  • configuration module name/version
  • configuration change notifications
  • configuration save/load status
