Category: Nokia Carrier Ethernet

Description: Covers configuration of source and destination endpoints for traffic mirroring sessions on Nokia carrier Ethernet equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TN-MIRROR-MIB?

This is a Nokia (formerly Alcatel-Lucent) MIB for the 7x50 SR-series carrier Ethernet routers, managing traffic mirroring sessions used to copy selected traffic to a monitoring destination. It exposes mirror destination configuration objects including SAP (service access point) port/encapsulation, SDP (service distribution path) binding, forwarding class, and remote-source settings. It supports monitoring of software/service configuration health primarily through tnMirrorDestinationAdminStatus versus tnMirrorDestinationOperStatus, revealing whether a configured mirror session is actually forwarding mirrored traffic or has failed to come up. It is a proprietary Nokia SROS MIB used alongside Nokia's broader service and SAP/SDP MIB family that defines the referenced port and service-distribution-path objects. It is typically deployed on Nokia 7x50 service routers in carrier and service-provider networks for lawful intercept, troubleshooting, or traffic-analysis mirroring. Engineers can download the TN-MIRROR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TN-MIRROR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nokia 1830 PSS (Photonic Service Switch) optical transport platform

Monitoring Examples

An engineer would check the tnMirrorDestinationTable (tnMirrorDestinationEntry) for a given tnMirrorDestinationIndex, comparing tnMirrorDestinationAdminStatus to tnMirrorDestinationOperStatus to confirm a mirror session intended to send traffic out tnMirrorDestinationSapPortId is actually operational. If operational status stays down while admin status is up, the tnMirrorDestinationSdpNumber or SAP encapsulation value may be misconfigured. tnMirrorDestinationDescription and tnMirrorDestinationFC help identify which forwarding class of traffic is being mirrored.

What Can Be Monitored

  • mirror destination admin/operational status
  • SAP port and encapsulation used for mirroring
  • SDP binding
  • forwarding class of mirrored traffic
