Category: Transition Networks Media Converters

Description: Manages Transition Networks device aggregation port configuration and group membership.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TN-DEV-AGGREGATION-MIB?

TN-DEV-AGGREGATION-MIB is a Transition Networks proprietary SNMP module managing link/port aggregation configuration on their switch product line, controlling how traffic is load-balanced across aggregated port groups. It exposes aggregation-mode hashing configuration (based on source/destination MAC, IP, or port) and aggregation-group membership, including which physical ports belong to a given aggregation group and the group's row status. Its monitoring value is confirming an aggregation group is correctly formed with the expected member ports and hashing mode, since a port dropping out of a group reduces available bandwidth and can cause traffic black-holing. It is a vendor-specific feature analogous to standard IEEE 802.3ad/LACP link aggregation but not dependent on the IETF LAG-MIB. It is deployed on Transition Networks managed switches wherever multiple physical links are aggregated for bandwidth or redundancy. Engineers can download the TN-DEV-AGGREGATION-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TN-DEV-AGGREGATION-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Transition Networks managed Ethernet switches
  • switches using port/link aggregation

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls tnDevAggrGroupCfgTable/tnDevAggrGroupCfgEntry to check tnDevAggrGroupRowStatus and tnDevAggrGroupPortMember for a given tnDevAggrGroupId, confirming all expected physical ports are still members of the aggregation group. The tnDevAggrModeCfgTable/tnDevAggrModeCfgEntry settings (tnDevAggrModeSmac, tnDevAggrModeDmac, tnDevAggrModeSipDip, tnDevAggrModeSportDport) are reviewed when traffic appears unevenly distributed across aggregated links, indicating a hashing-mode mismatch. A port unexpectedly missing from tnDevAggrGroupPortMember points to a physical link failure or misconfiguration reducing the aggregate's effective bandwidth.

What Can Be Monitored

  • aggregation group port membership
  • aggregation group row status
  • load-balancing hash mode (MAC/IP/port based)
