Description: Manages Terawave DSL access SONET interface configuration, performance, and alarms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is TERAWAVE-teraSonet-MIB?
TERAWAVE-teraSonet-MIB manages SONET interfaces on Terawave DSL access platforms, covering the optical transport layer within a telecom access-network vendor's equipment. It exposes SONET medium configuration (mode, STM-1 mapping, signal-degrade/signal-fail thresholds) as well as performance data such as elapsed time and valid/invalid interval counts, plus section-level trace identifiers. It is used to monitor the physical-layer hardware health of SONET links — signal degrade and signal fail threshold crossings, and the ratio of valid to invalid performance intervals — which together reveal optical link quality problems or line degradation before a full outage occurs. It follows the structure of standard SONET/optical interface MIB conventions, so it likely depends on those broader IETF concepts even though implemented as a Terawave-specific module. It is deployed on Terawave DSL access system chassis at telco central offices or remote terminal sites carrying SONET transport, where a TERAWAVE-teraSonet-MIB download is typically the starting point for loading the module into a MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TERAWAVE-teraSonet-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Terawave DSL access system / SONET access equipment
Monitoring Examples
teraSonetMediumTable and teraSonetMediumTableEntry expose teraSonetSDThreshold and teraSonetSFThreshold, the configured signal-degrade and signal-fail alarm thresholds, alongside teraSonetMediumValidTotalIntervals and teraSonetMediumInvalidTotalIntervals performance counters. An operator polling these would watch invalid intervals climbing relative to valid intervals as an early sign of a degrading SONET line, and would check teraSonetSectionTraceLenTx in the teraSonetSectionTable for a section trace mismatch indicating a misconnected or misconfigured fiber path.
What Can Be Monitored
- signal degrade/signal fail thresholds
- valid vs invalid performance intervals
- total elapsed time
- SONET mode and STM-1 mapping
- section trace identifier
