What Is TRANSPORT-ADDRESS-MIB?
TRANSPORT-ADDRESS-MIB is an IETF standards-track MIB (RFC 3419) that defines vendor-neutral textual conventions for representing transport-layer addresses and the transport domains they belong to, such as UDP/IPv4 and TCP/IPv6. Rather than exposing operational counters itself, it supplies common data types - like TransportAddress and TransportAddressType - that other MIB modules reuse to describe endpoint addresses consistently. The TRANSPORT-ADDRESS-MIB RFC text itself contains no monitorable counters, only the type definitions other MIBs import. Because it is a definitions-only module, it plays no direct role in reporting hardware or software status; its value lies purely in standardizing how other MIBs (which do report status) express addressing. Many later application- and transport-layer MIBs depend on this module for their address-typed objects, making it a widely-imported building block rather than a standalone one. It is used as a foundational MIB compiled alongside any other MIB needing to represent a transport endpoint, on essentially any managed IP device.

Monitoring Examples
This module defines the transportDomains registration subtree and associated textual conventions (e.g., transport address and address-type conventions) rather than runtime counters, so there is no monitoring scenario to poll directly; its objects are instead referenced by other MIBs' tables - for example a session or peer-address column - that import these types to encode addresses consistently.
