Category: IPsec / VPN, Spring Tide Networks

Description: Manages Spring Tide Networks PPTP tunnel configuration, control connection state, and data channel parameters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is STN-PPTP-MIB?

STN-PPTP-MIB is a Spring Tide Networks enterprise MIB for managing the Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol on Spring Tide subscriber/service platforms. It defines objects describing PPTP tunnel configuration, control-connection state, and data-channel parameters used to establish and maintain VPN tunnels. Its monitoring focus is largely software/protocol-state: control connection status and per-channel parameters that reveal whether a PPTP tunnel is correctly established or has failed to negotiate, which is critical for remote-access VPN troubleshooting. It implements a vendor MIB analogous in scope to the standard PPTP state machine described in RFC 2637, though as an enterprise MIB it is not a direct extension of any IETF MIB. It is deployed on legacy Spring Tide Networks access/tunneling platforms providing PPTP-based remote-access VPN service, with the STN-PPTP-MIB MIB remaining the reference for interpreting tunnel state on those legacy platforms.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in STN-PPTP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Spring Tide Networks tunneling/access platforms

Monitoring Examples

This MIB's sample object list is empty in the source data, so specific OID names cannot be cited here. Based on the module description, a typical use would be polling PPTP control-connection state and data-channel status per tunnel to detect a tunnel stuck in a non-established state. Such a state would indicate a failed negotiation between the remote client and the tunneling gateway.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PPTP control connection state
  • PPTP data channel parameters
  • tunnel establishment status
