All MIBs › SSL-MIB
Organization: Working Group
Last Updated: 1999-11-22
Category: Security / Access Control
Description: Covers configuration of the SSL and TLS protocols, including session parameters and cipher suite negotiation.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is SSL-MIB?
This SSL-MIB (object prefix "swSSL...", typical of switch-vendor management MIBs) covers SSL/TLS configuration for a managed switch's secure web management interface, such as HTTPS certificate handling. It exposes configuration data - an SSL management enable/disable control and a certificate file reference - rather than detailed protocol session-state or cipher negotiation data. Its relevance to monitoring is a basic software/configuration status check: confirming the device's secure-management layer is enabled and a valid certificate file is loaded, which is essential for trusted administrative access. It is conceptually grounded in standard SSL/TLS protocol semantics but is not itself a formal IETF SSL MIB, and would typically be used alongside a device's standard SNMPv2 system/config MIBs. Typical deployment is on managed Ethernet switches offering an HTTPS-based web management interface, and administrators can consult the SSL-MIB reference for the exact object definitions involved.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SSL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- managed Ethernet switch (vendor-specific)
Monitoring Examples
swSSLMgmt is the top-level control object for enabling/disabling SSL on the switch's web management service, while swSSLCertificateFile identifies the certificate file currently loaded for that HTTPS service. An administrator would check swSSLCertificateFile after a certificate rotation to confirm the switch picked up the new file, since a stale or missing value would mean management sessions are still using an old or default certificate.
What Can Be Monitored
- SSL management enable/disable state
- loaded certificate file
