What Is SNMP540-ALARM-MIB?
SNMP540-ALARM-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB associated with SNMP 540-branded environmental/remote monitoring hardware, commonly used in telecom shelters and equipment rooms, defining alarm notification objects for fault and threshold events. It exposes an alarm table listing individual alarm points, each with a description, severity level, class, and masking configuration, alongside a general alarm-integration-time setting. In monitoring terms this MIB is entirely about fault/alarm status: it tracks which discrete alarm inputs (e.g., door open, temperature high, power failure, smoke detected) are currently active, their severity, and whether they are masked, giving a real-time picture of facility or equipment-room fault conditions. There is no indication of dependency on other standard MIBs beyond the basic SNMP framework, as it defines a self-contained proprietary alarm table. It is typically deployed in remote telecom sites, equipment shelters, or cabinets where a hardware alarm/monitoring unit reports environmental and equipment faults back to a central NMS, and facility engineers can download the SNMP540-ALARM-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser for alarm-table monitoring.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SNMP540-ALARM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- SNMP 540-series remote alarm/environmental monitoring unit
- telecom equipment shelter/cabinet monitoring hardware
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll snmp540AlarmTable/snmp540AlarmEntry to check each alarmNumber's current description, severityLevel, and class, and whether it is currently masked, to see which physical alarm inputs are tripped. The snmp540GeneralIntegrationTime object controls how long a condition must persist before being reported, so a facility manager tuning false-alarm rates would adjust it alongside reviewing which alarms have high severityLevel values. A high-severity alarm entry becoming active would indicate an urgent facility issue requiring dispatch. This MIB is used purely for discrete alarm/fault status, not general performance counters.
What Can Be Monitored
- active alarm status per alarm point
- alarm severity level
- alarm class
- alarm masking configuration
- alarm integration/debounce time
