What Is SK-UPPS-MIB?

SK-UPPS-MIB is a SysKonnect vendor MIB (OID branch 'sk') for managing SysKonnect network interface adapters and the proprietary UPPS protocol used for peer-to-peer link status between such adapters. It exposes low-level hardware configuration data for each adapter instance, including interrupt line, base memory address, RAM size, I/O port, and DMA channel, alongside protocol/version and buffer-pool sizing parameters (number and maximum of Mbufs). Its monitoring emphasis is squarely hardware configuration and resource status of the network adapter card itself: an administrator checks these fields to confirm the adapter's hardware resources (IRQ, DMA, memory) are correctly assigned and free of conflicts, and that buffer resources are adequately sized for traffic load. It follows standard SNMPv1/v2 SMI conventions for its table structure (stTable/stEntry indexed by stIfIndex) and predates modern IF-MIB-style interface management, reflecting its origin as a legacy ISA/PCI adapter driver MIB. It was deployed on servers and workstations using SysKonnect Ethernet/Token Ring/FDDI adapter cards, mainly in 1990s-2000s enterprise network environments. Engineers can download the SK-UPPS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll stTable/stEntry (indexed by stIfIndex) to read stInterrupt, stBaseAddress, stIOPort, and stDMALine, confirming the adapter's assigned hardware resources don't conflict with another device in the system. stRAMSize together with stNumMbufs and stMaxTxMbufs indicates how much on-card memory and buffer headroom is available, which is useful when diagnosing packet loss under heavy transmit load. stVersion helps confirm the adapter's firmware/driver revision when troubleshooting a reported compatibility issue.
