Category: Cisco Devices, Quality of Service, Telephony and VoIP
Description: Monitors voice and video media quality metrics including MOS scores and impairment factors on Cisco devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-MEDIA-QUALITY-MIB?
CISCO-MEDIA-QUALITY-MIB is a Cisco vendor-specific MIB (part of the CISCO-SMI enterprise tree) that enhances the IETF DIAL-CONTROL-MIB (RFC 2128) by exposing voice and video call-quality statistics for telephony and Voice-over-IP call legs. Its tables — cmqVoIPCallActiveTable/cmqVoIPCallHistoryTable and the parallel cmqVideoCallActiveTable/cmqVideoCallHistoryTable — carry per-call metrics such as packet loss ratio (cmqVoIPCallActiveRxPktLossRatioPct), round-trip time, jitter buffer delay and high/low watermarks, and Cisco's predictive MOS scores (cmqVoIPCallActiveRxPred107RMosListen, cmqVoIPCallActiveRxPred107RScoreConv). It depends on identifiers imported from DIAL-CONTROL-MIB and CISCO-DIAL-CONTROL-MIB (callActiveIndex, cCallHistoryIndex) to correlate quality data back to the underlying call record. Because it reports application-layer quality-of-experience rather than raw interface counters, it is especially useful for diagnosing subjective call-quality complaints that don't show up as interface errors. It runs on Cisco IOS voice gateways and Unified Communications-capable routers, and support teams often perform a CISCO-MEDIA-QUALITY-MIB download to add it to their MIB browser for troubleshooting VoIP quality issues.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-MEDIA-QUALITY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco IOS voice/video gateways and routers (Cisco Unified Communications infrastructure)
Monitoring Examples
An operator polls cmqVoIPCallActiveRxPktLossRatioPct and cmqVoIPCallActiveRxPred107RMosListen for an in-progress call; a rising packet-loss ratio paired with a falling MOS-listening estimate would indicate the call is degrading toward an unacceptable listening quality before the user hangs up in frustration.
What Can Be Monitored
- VoIP call active/history MOS and R-factor scores
- packet loss ratio and concealment counters
- jitter buffer delay and watermark levels
- round-trip time per call leg
- video call active/history quality table entries
