Category: Data Center Infrastructure Monitoring, Environmental and Power Monitoring
Description: Defines sensor trap notifications for environmental threshold violations and fault conditions.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is SENSORTRAP-MIB?
SENSORTRAP-MIB defines trap notifications for environmental sensors, and the presence of a rielloMIB reference indicates it originates from Riello (a UPS and power-protection equipment vendor). It exposes sensor identity and grouping data used purely to support fault/threshold trap generation rather than rich polled statistics. The primary monitoring value is in hardware status: it signals when an environmental sensor (such as temperature, humidity, or a UPS-attached probe) crosses a threshold or fails, which is critical for detecting overheating or power-related conditions before equipment damage occurs. It is a small, focused companion module likely paired with a broader Riello UPS or sensor MIB for full device management. It is typically deployed on UPS systems or environmental monitoring probes in data centers and equipment rooms. Engineers can download the SENSORTRAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SENSORTRAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Riello UPS systems
- environmental sensor/probe modules
Monitoring Examples
An admin subscribes to traps from sensorTrapGroup keyed by sensorId to get immediate notification when a specific sensor in a sensorgroup crosses its alarm threshold, such as a temperature probe exceeding a safe limit near a UPS. Because the MIB centers on notifications rather than a rich polling table, monitoring is largely event-driven: a trap arrival itself is the signal of an environmental fault. Correlating the sensorId in the trap with an inventory of physical sensors lets staff pinpoint which rack or cabinet triggered the alert.
What Can Be Monitored
- sensor identity
- sensor group membership
- environmental threshold trap events
- sensor fault conditions
