Category: Citrix Application Delivery, Enterprise SMI and Registration

Description: Defines the Citrix SDX enterprise root OID tree hierarchy for appliance MIB registration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SDX-ROOT-MIB?

SDX-ROOT-MIB is the enterprise root MIB for Citrix's NetScaler SDX (Service Delivery appliance) platform, defining the top-level OID tree and core system identification objects for the SDX management hypervisor layer. It exposes platform and product identity (systemPlatform, systemProduct, systemBuildNumber) as well as networking configuration for the SDX management components, including the SVM (management service VM) and Xen hypervisor IP addressing, netmask, and gateway settings. Its monitoring value centers on software/platform status and management-plane connectivity: confirming the correct build/version is running and that the SVM and Xen management interfaces are correctly addressed and reachable, which is foundational before deeper per-instance NetScaler VPX monitoring can occur. It serves as the root registration point for other SDX-specific MIB branches (such as sdxEventGroup for event/notification data) and depends on the standard SNMPv2-SMI enterprises arc. It is deployed on Citrix (NetScaler) SDX multi-tenant application delivery appliances that host multiple NetScaler VPX instances, and administrators typically perform an SDX-ROOT-MIB download from Citrix to load the module into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SDX-ROOT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Citrix (NetScaler) SDX multi-tenant application delivery appliances

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll systemProduct and systemBuildNumber to confirm the SDX appliance's software version, then check systemSvmIPAddress and systemXenIPAddress against systemNetmask and systemGateway to verify the management plane's networking is correctly configured. A mismatch or unreachable systemSvmIPAddress would indicate the SDX management service VM has a networking problem, which would block visibility into the hosted NetScaler VPX instances.

What Can Be Monitored

  • platform/product identity and build version
  • SVM management IP configuration
  • Xen hypervisor IP configuration
  • netmask and gateway settings
  • SDX event/notification registration
