What Is SAF-IPADDONS?

SAF-IPADDONS is a SAF Tehnika enterprise MIB extending the management of the company's microwave radio links with IP networking add-on features, covering both the modem/indoor unit (IDU) and outdoor unit (ODU) of a point-to-point microwave radio system. It exposes environmental and power telemetry -- modem and ODU temperature, IDU input voltage/current and total power consumption, ODU PSU state and power consumption, and the voltage/current supplied from the IDU to the ODU -- plus radio-specific quality data like ODU cable attenuation and an interface table for IP add-on ports. This MIB is squarely aimed at hardware health monitoring: it lets an operator track thermal status (modemTemperature, oduTemperature), power-supply health (oduPsuState, iduInputVoltage/Current), and cable/RF link quality (oduCableAttenuation), all classic leading indicators of radio-link hardware failure. It is a self-contained SAF Tehnika enterprise MIB with no notable dependency on external standard MIBs beyond basic SNMP conventions. It is typically deployed on SAF Tehnika microwave radio links used for wireless backhaul in telecom and utility networks where remote, often mast-mounted, ODUs need environmental and power monitoring. Engineers can download the SAF-IPADDONS file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SAF-IPADDONS. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • SAF Tehnika microwave radio link (IDU/ODU point-to-point radio)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls modemTemperature and oduTemperature to ensure both the indoor modem and the mast-mounted outdoor unit are operating within thermal limits, and checks oduPsuState alongside iduInputVoltage/iduInputCurrent/iduPowerConsumption to detect a failing power supply before it causes an outage. Rising oduCableAttenuation readings from ipaddIfBTable/ipaddIfBEntry would reveal a degrading coaxial or waveguide connection between IDU and ODU, letting the operator schedule a repair before the microwave link fails outright; a sudden drop in iduOutputVoltageToOdu or iduOutputCurrentToOdu would similarly flag an ODU power-feed fault.

What Can Be Monitored

  • modem and ODU temperature
  • IDU input voltage/current/power consumption
  • ODU power supply (PSU) state
  • ODU cable attenuation
  • IDU-to-ODU output voltage/current
  • ODU power consumption
