Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is S5-ETHERNET-TRAP-MIB?

S5-ETHERNET-TRAP-MIB is a Nortel Networks proprietary MIB (5000-series stackable switch family) defining Ethernet-related trap notifications. Its traps cover port auto/manual partition, DTE jabbering, redundant-link port failure and bad-remote-config detection, BaySecure MAC-access violation, management-access violation, MAC-table-full/cleared-for-port/cleared/removed events, and a MAC-address-table threshold-reached notification, each in original and 'new' (extended-varbind) variants. As a notification MIB it lets an administrator get alerted on port partitioning, redundant-link failures, and BaySecure MAC-security violations on a Nortel 5000-series switch. It is deployed on Nortel Networks 5000-series stackable switches. Engineers can download the S5-ETHERNET-TRAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in S5-ETHERNET-TRAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel Networks 5000-series stackable switches

Monitoring Examples

An administrator receives an s5EtrSbsMacAccessViolation trap to identify an unauthorized MAC address attempting access on a Nortel 5000-series switch port.

What Can Be Monitored

  • port partition, redundant-link failure, and MAC-security violation events
