Category: Avaya BayStack Ethernet Management, Enterprise SMI and Registration

Description: Registers Avaya BayStack enterprise OID subtree assignments and object identifiers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is S5-REG-MIB?

S5-REG-MIB is a Nortel/Avaya registration MIB that defines and enumerates the OID subtree assigned to each BayStack/S5000 chassis model type (such as M3000, M3030, M5000, and M1032x), rather than exposing operational data of its own. It exists purely to give other S5-family MIBs, particularly S5-CHASSIS-MIB, a standard set of chassis-type identifier values to report through objects like s5ChasType. It contains no counters, status objects, or fault/trap definitions and cannot be polled for hardware or software health directly. Because its sole purpose is to be referenced by S5-CHASSIS-MIB and related BayStack MIBs, it has a direct dependency on that MIB family. It is deployed alongside other Nortel/Avaya S5-series MIBs wherever BayStack chassis hardware needs to be identified consistently by SNMP, and administrators can download the S5-REG-MIB file for reference alongside S5-CHASSIS-MIB.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in S5-REG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral within the Avaya/Nortel BayStack S5000 family; not tied to a single chassis model
  • Avaya/Nortel BayStack chassis switches generally

Monitoring Examples

This module is a registration/enumeration MIB with no runtime data objects of its own; it only defines constant OID values such as s5ChasTypeM3000Orig and s5ChasTypeM5000 that are used by s5ChasType in S5-CHASSIS-MIB to identify a chassis's hardware model, so there is no independent polling scenario to describe.
