Category: Environmental Monitoring

Description: Tracks environmental conditions in equipment racks, covering temperature, humidity, power consumption, and door sensor status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RackMonitor-MIB?

RackMonitor-MIB is a vendor-specific legacy-style MIB (RFC1155-SMI/RFC-1212) published under enterprises.534 ("powerware"), whose copyright header identifies it as an Eaton Environmental Rack Monitor MIB — the batch's vendor field was left blank, but the source clearly points to Eaton (formerly Powerware) rather than an unbranded device. It models device identity (insIdentManufacturer/Model/AgentSoftwareVersion), network/date-time/logging/Telnet/HTTP/SNMP/trap-receiver configuration, and two dual-sensor probe groups (scSensor1/scSensor2) each carrying configurable temperature and humidity threshold profiles under sensorConfig alongside live current-reading tables under sensorMonitor. It defines an extensive set of TRAP-TYPE notifications for temperature/humidity high/low warning and critical thresholds, alarm-input active/inactive transitions, and communication lost/restored events. This makes it primarily an environmental-alarm MIB for rack-level temperature, humidity, and contact-alarm inputs rather than a network-traffic MIB, deployed alongside Eaton/Powerware UPS and power-distribution gear in data-center racks, and RackMonitor-MIB SNMP monitoring is the standard way to pull live sensor readings and threshold alarms from these probes.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RackMonitor-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Eaton/Powerware Rack Monitor environmental monitoring appliances

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls the live sensor tables under sensorMonitor for each rack probe and compares readings against the scSensor1Temperature/scSensor2Temperature threshold profiles configured under sensorConfig; receiving an rmTemperatureHighCritical trap without a matching rmTemperatureNotHighCritical would indicate the rack is still overheating.

What Can Be Monitored

  • live temperature/humidity sensor readings
  • configurable temperature/humidity threshold profiles
  • alarm input active/inactive state
  • temperature high/low warning & critical traps
  • humidity high/low warning & critical traps
  • communication lost/restored events
